I think that the dead heat in summer in south Florida is a little far away from "paradise" and a little closer to "hell"

Battery powered electric blankets for those really hard times. Just pile your snakes under your covers, crawl in with them, turn it on and go to sleep.

I was in that fix once. Hope it never gets like that again. Been looking into a generator, but a portable one that I could use for other needs also. If I ever decide to quit renting, I may go with a diesel house generator converted to go green. But that would be if the wind stopped blowing the wind turbine, or the water quit flowing on the Hydro unit, or the sun quit shinning on the solar units.

Hey, I always said if your gonna dream, you should dream big. :plo2:
Yeah, I live in my own little world. But that's OK, they all know me here.

Well, I had to put my emergency plan into action yesterday.

We got hit with a horrible ice storm and our power went out at about 11am and stayed out until almost 5pm.

I was ready, though a little stressed.
I covered the tanks with towels as soon as the power went out to try to keep the heat in for as long as possible and then started heating up the hot packs.
Turns out I didn't really need the hot packs, though.
My fiance remembered that he had a kerosine heater at his mom's house so we went to get it.
I put the geckos in shoe box-sized bins and put the beardie in his bathtub (a big storage bin). We got the kerosine heater started in the living room and placed the lizards near the heater- a safe distance away of course. It kept them all right around 75. Not bad, really.

Everything turned out really well. The lizards were a little grouchy for being stuffed in boxes (Bruce especially), but I think they'll get over it.

So, once again, thank you. :)

Very cool Ashton!! Glad you were prepared. So many people dont think about things like this until it happens to them.

Rock on. I've got about 20 panels coming to my place. Big old 5ft'ers. Buddy got em from the air base and they're throwing them away. So I'm gonna run it to the roof, run some 0 awg wire into my garage, and set a parallel line of DeepCyc's up to power all of my herp lights and heaters. W00t.
