a borrow for my tegu

Postby trapieter on 17 Mar 2008 14:07

ok latley shadow has been a right PIA with her burrowing and every time I think I have it sorted I realise I don't and I find her some where I would rather not lmao... or escaped!! yea anyway...

so I'm thinking of being a little more elaborate in my methods but not sure how elaborate to be. I want to allow for her growth ofcourse and easy access for me to ensure if I need to check her out for any reason I can.

anyone who knows me well knows I think way too much for my own good lol so any ideas will be good... simpler the better coz knowing me I'll put in a false floor with trap doors and tunnels :sdbb: haha exactly...

Shadow is housed outside right? do you need to actually remove her from burrow to check her, or just be able to look in and see *yes she's in there" *yes she is most likely breathing*? if you dont need to remove her from the tunnel you could sink a pvc tube into the ground at a slight angle, and put another tube going straight up from the end (so it is like a check mark in the ground) put a screen at both ends of the lookout tunnel, and cap it when you dont need to inspect her. or for a shorter wider place, use a metal garbage can? maybe that will at least give you an Idea to go with... someday when global warming ends snowy winters in Minnesota and I can house herps outside, I'll be back to ask what worked!!

hahhaha, no she is indoors... I need to create one for her as she is having alot of fun doing that for herself but that scares the hell out of me as going under the lining of the viv... funny as to watch but not too comforting when I start to think of safety lol. she has three hides! *rolls eyes* nvm we will sort it lol.

I had a columbian b&w tegu and she hid most of the day. I used shpagnum peat moss, and jungle earth bedding. I made it like 5-6 inches and she loved it. She always made new places to sleep everynight, but she would come out eat bask, swim in her water a bit then back to sleep. LOL She was only about 16 inches when i had her.

oh shadow is sorted btw.. we kinda made a large hide in the corner for her and she has pulled all the dirt/mulch mix in/up and around lol looks like a beavers dam on the ouside with all the mulch bits but she is loving it... lol had to replace all the dirt tho as she moved so mucg of it in.

Now she hides in there, comes out to bask and have a wonder and zooms out of there like a mad women come feeding time lol.
